 Free Day FAQ's

Is Free Day still free? Yes. Tickets are free of charge.

Why do I need tickets if it's still free?  The Huntington can only accommodate a certain number
of people at a time. Because the popularity of Free Day has continued to grow to extraordinary
proportions, we've found it necessary to place limits on the number of visitors admitted on the
first Thursday of the month.

How do I get tickets?  Tickets are available by calling 800-838-3006 or reserving online. You will
be asked to choose between a morning arrival time (between 10:30 a.m. and noon) or an
afternoon arrival time (between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.) Once reserved, your paper ticket(s) will
be mailed to you.

How many tickets can I get? You may request up to 5 tickets.

Can I just pay the regular admission price and come on Free Day? No. You may not purchase
regular admission tickets on Free Day, and only visitors with Free Day tickets will be admitted.

What are Free Day hours?  On Free Days, hours are 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Can I bring a picnic?  Food and picnicking is not permitted on the grounds. However, there is a
small area adjacent to the parking lot where you may eat food you've brought before you enter.
Dining is available in our cafe or tea room.

Our group is coming in a bus.  Do we need tickets?  Yes. All nonprofit and K-12 school groups
coming in buses must call to reserve tickets and bus parking in advance. Nonprofits, call: 626
405 2240 or email
tours@huntington.org. K-12 groups, call 626-405-2127 or email
driley@huntington.org.  Bus group tickets and parking passes may be ordered up to 3 months in
advance.

Do I need tickets if I have reservations at the Tea Room on Free Day?  Yes. If you have
reservations for the Rose Garden Tea Room on a Free Day, your Free Day tickets will
automatically be mailed to you. The Tea Room does not take reservations for groups larger than
8 on Free Days.

Do infants and toddlers need tickets?  Yes, all non-member visitors need a ticket for Free Day.

How often can I come? You may come as often as you have tickets.

Can we use our tickets obtained for a particular month for a different month if we can’t make
it?   No. You must have a ticket for the month in which you're visiting.

What if we need tickets at the last minute.  Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate last-minute
requests. Be sure to allow plenty of time for your tickets to arrive from the ticketing agency.
They will mail your tickets to you; you should receive them within seven days.

How far in advance can I get tickets? You may call or go online for tickets on the first day of
the month preceding the month you'd like to visit.  For example, if you wish to visit on the July
"Free Day," you may call or go online for tickets beginning June 1.

can provide interesting educational programs on growing and crafting with gourds. We have
provided presentations to garden clubs, seniors, civic groups, schools, youth organizations, and
art/craft societies.  Programs include a speaker and exhibit, and usually range from 30 min to
1.5 hours  In lieu of any honorarium to speakers we prefer a donation to the OC Gourd
Society.  We are the local affiliate of the California Gourd Society (501-C3).
Our programs are always well received...they include a display of various gourd art, musical
instruments, dolls, storage vessels and ornaments made of gourds. We provide handouts on
growing gourds and give seeds to get folks started having fun with gourds.  For more
information go to
www.orangecountygourdsociety.org. To request a speaker email
susansphn@aol.com  or call 714 997-4482. Hoping to share some gourdfun with you soon!

Can You Help ?
There is a group of young
adolescents ages 12 to 18 in
Santa Ana at a place called
Phoenix House, a drug and
alcohol rehab . They are
usually sent there by the
courts.  The  staff is doing a
very good job of
rehabilitating these young
people. Most of them have
not had much of a family life.
 During the time they are
there they are taught the
value of family and of social
responsibility. Martha Wida
has volunteered there for
several years with the U C
Master Gardeners teaching
them gardening.

At the moment they are in
need of wood to make more
square foot gardening boxes.
 They hope to have one
raised bed for each student.
(45) The beds are four feet
square and about 6" high.
They  will consider anything
anyone has.

Please contact Martha
directly if you have anything
to offer.
